Privacy Policy

Deal Dropper ("Deal Dropper", "we", "us") runs a local coupon membership: members pay a monthly fee and use coupons that local businesses offer. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers our website and web app, the business dashboard, and our add-ons for point-of-sale (POS) systems.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run the membership: your email, your membership status, and which coupons you use.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
- You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address. For businesses: the business's name and categories, the addresses of its locations, and the email addresses of its owners and managers.
- Membership and payment status. Whether your membership is active, in a trial, past due or canceled, and the customer and subscription references Stripe gives us. Card details go straight to Stripe.
- Coupon use. When you use a coupon: which coupon, at which location, when, its value, and how it was redeemed (scanned, typed in, or through a business's POS system). We need this to apply each coupon's how-often rule and to show you how much you've saved.
- Sign-in information. The one-time codes we email you (we keep only a scrambled copy, and it expires within minutes) and a cookie that keeps you signed in.
- Location, only when you ask. If you tap "Near me", your phone shares its approximate location (rounded to about a city block) so we can sort coupons by distance. We use it for that one list and don't store it. You can save a home ZIP code instead; that's kept on your account until you remove it. We never track your location in the background.
- Technical information. Like any website, our servers receive your IP address and browser type when you visit. We use it to keep the service secure and working.
- Information from POS systems. When a business connects its POS system to Deal Dropper, we receive identifiers for the business and store (for example, a merchant or location ID), the order or check a coupon was applied to, and the discount amount. We use this only to apply and record the coupon, and to undo it if the sale is voided or refunded. We don't receive card information, and we don't collect information about the business's other customers.
How we use it
- To run the membership: sign you in, show your coupons, make live codes, and record redemptions.
- To bill members, through Stripe.
- To show businesses how their coupons are used. They see counts and coupon details, not members' email addresses.
- To keep the service safe: preventing account sharing, fraud and abuse.
- To send service emails, like sign-in codes. We don't send marketing emails without your permission.
- To improve Deal Dropper using combined numbers that don't identify anyone (for example, total savings by category).
Who we share it with
- The business where you use a coupon sees that a coupon was used, when, and its value. It doesn't see your email address.
- Service providers that help us run Deal Dropper: Stripe (payments), our hosting provider, and our email provider. They may use the information only to provide their service to us. We also send business street addresses (never members' information) to the US Census Bureau's address lookup to place businesses on the map.
- POS providers. When a business uses our add-on, the coupon details needed to apply the discount pass through that business's POS system.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of members, businesses or the public.
- If Deal Dropper is sold or merged, information may move to the new owner, who must keep following this policy.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
Cookies
We use two small cookies: one keeps you signed in, and one remembers whether you picked light or dark mode. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account exists. Redemption records are kept for accounting and to prevent fraud. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep.
Your choices and rights
- See or correct your information: email us.
- Delete your account: email us from the address on your account. We'll confirm, then delete it within 30 days.
- Cancel your membership: any time, from "Manage membership" in the app.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act or California law), you may have more rights: to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your information, and to appeal our answer. We honor these requests for everyone. Email us to make one.
Security
We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), scrambled storage of sign-in codes and passphrases, short-lived codes, and limited access. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Children
Deal Dropper is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also tell members by email or in the app.
